An Irish MEP, who has been asked to draw up proposals on air transport, is proposing the establishment of a special ombudsman to oversee the rights of the EU's 370m passengers.

The ombudsman would investigate issues such as cancelled flights and cabin conditions amid growing fears over air rage and deep vein thrombosis.
