British Army explosives experts defused a device found in the garden of an unoccupied house in north Belfast last night.

The discovery came in the aftermath of the ongoing examination of what has been described as "a massive bomb", which was discovered on a Co Armagh road yesterday morning.

More than 1000 pounds of homemade explosives were found in two wheelie bins on the Monaghan road on the edge of Armagh city.

Two controlled explosions have already been carried out on the device.

The SDLP's Seamus Mallon has described the haul as "a blatant attempt to destabilise the peace process".
