WATCH: Cork TD Mick Barry criticises ‘disgraceful’ abortion graffiti at office

Staff working for Mick Barry arrived at Anti-Austerity Alliance TD’s constituency office yesterday to discover the slogan “Baby killer out!” painted onto the front of the building.
Mr Barry said that he understands the incident took place at around 10pm on Wednesday night, and that CCTV footage shows the culprit carrying out the act at his office in Blackpool.
The incident took place a day after Mr Barry wore a ‘Repeal’ jumper in the Dáil, in favour of a repeal of the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution, which recognises the right to life of the unborn child.
“I think and I hope that people will take note of the different methods used by the various contending forces in this debate,” Mr Barry told 96FM’s Opinion Line.
“I know that not everyone will agree, or agree fully with my viewpoint on this, but I’m quite firm that I will conduct the debate in terms of a debate and a discussion around ideas, put forward my viewpoint, and try and convince people,” he said.
“Unfortunately there are others who are fanatical on this issue who will attempt to engage in acts of this kind, vandalism rather than real debate and discussion and I think there is a reason for that. I think there are powerful arguments on the side of change here, but we’ll continue to make those arguments. I do have staff who work in that office. If people have something to say to me, they can say it to me.
“I’m a big boy and I’m well able to take it, but I’ve got staff working in that office, and I think it’s disgraceful the way that they have been treated in this incident.”
