Jobseekers urged to attend studio open day in Limerick
Jobseekers and film enthusiasts have been called to attend an open day at the Troy Studios film hub in Castletroy on October 15.
The event organised by Screen Training Ireland, the Irish Film Board and Troy Studio is seen as the first step to recruitment. All those attending will be given an introduction to opportunities which beckon in Limerick’s new film industry.
Michelle Brassil of Troy said the event would be a great opportunity to meet people in the film industry and give a taster of what it’s all about.
“The open day will suit school leavers, job seekers, new entrants to the jobs market, and graduates seeking diverse and exciting opportunities. Those attending will give people a chance to hear from experienced professionals about film production and how it works and the different aspects of film production.”
The studio has been developed in a 6,500sq m building at the National Technology Park, once used by Dell.
Limerick City and County Council purchased the building from a Limerick businessman and have entered into a long-term lease with Troy Studios whose directors include Siún Ní Raghallaigh and Ossie Kilkenny of Ardmore Studios and producer, John Kelleher.

The council gave Troy Studios planning permission to carry out extensive internal work on the building which will double the studio space available in this country.
Ardmore Studios does not have enough space to satisfy current demand.
Since the new Limerick studio was given the go-ahead, a number of US film production companies and Pinewood Studios in the UK have expressed interest in it.
Mr Kilkenny said: “Ardmore does not have enough space to cater for the growing demand by international film makers who want to make films and TV productions here.”
The Limerick Twenty Thirty Company which was launched this week under former Kerry Group CEO, Denis Brosnan, is confident the Troy Studio will create more than 500 of the 5000 jobs it is targeting over the next five years.
Many of those who will be taken on at the studio will include electricians, carpenters, painter/decorators and technical personnel.
