Youth released on bail after alleged domestic violence

Gardaí objected to bail being granted to an 19-year-old because of the extent of the violence as he allegedly put his mother in fear at the family home on Sunday.

Radu Molnar, aged 19, was arrested by garda Chris Daly and charged with contravening a protection order by putting Daniella Balind in fear at the family home at 25 Innismore Square, Ballincollig, Co Cork, on July 3.

The charge sheet stated that Mr Molnar allegedly broke flowerpots, assaulted and threatened Ms Balind, and put her in fear for her safety and life by holding a kitchen knife during the alleged incident.

Gda Daly said the objection to bail was based on the level of violence allegedly used during the incident.

Inspector Adrian Gamble called Ms Balind to give evidence on her son’s bail application.

“My son has a problem with anger. He cannot manage it. He usually expresses himself with anger. It is not intentional,” she said.

Insp Gamble asked: “If he is released, what are your fears?”

She replied: “I think I will be able to arrange for him to take therapy to help him. I feel I can manage him.”

Defence solicitor Diarmuid Kelleher said the accused had no previous convictions of any kind.

Judge Olann Kelleher said he appreciated the defendant was accused of the offence and not convicted of it but he suggested he attend at the probation service.

The accused was released on bail until July 13.
