Gardaí: Cork restaurant fire may have been deliberate
They hope witnesses with mobile-phone video or photos might help provide a breakthrough after revealing the blaze at Camden Quay on June 8 started in suspicious circumstances.
Cork City Fire Brigade was called to the scene at N Square Steakhouse & Seafood Restaurant around 5.30am on Wednesday. Nobody was injured, but six fire teams were required to tackle the blaze, which engulfed the restaurant.
“Results of a detailed forensic and technical examination have been furnished to investigating gardaí, confirming the fire started in suspicious circumstances,” said a statement from the Garda press office.

Residents of the overhead and neighbouring Camden Wharf apartments, which run from the quay along Pine St and Carroll’s Quay, were evacuated safely. Fire officers said after the blaze that the design and construction materials used had prevented the fire spreading to the residential part of the development and causing possible fatalities.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Camden Quay or Pine St, near the Christy Ring Bridge, during the early hours of Wednesday, June 8, to contact them. They are particularly keen to hear from people who took photos and video at the scene.
