A man was killed and three people were injured after a van collided with an ambulance in Co Cork in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The accident happened on the main N20 Cork-Mallow road just before 2am. It is understood the van was travelling north on the road and the ambulance was travelling towards Cork City when the two collided.

The driver of the van, a man in his 30s, was declared dead at the scene. His body was taken to Cork University Hospital where a postmortem was to take place.
