Court action over cattle auction is adjourned

More than 1,000 cows and calves belonging to Peter and Tracey Kingston from Craden Hill Farm, Novohal, Kinsale, were put up for auction last week. The Kingstons’ farm was placed into receivership last year, and a receiver appointed.

The Cork County sheriff, solicitor Sinead McNamara, who took possession of the property in December, last week secured an injunction because of fears protesters intended to disrupt the sale of the herd, designed to reduce a debt of €2.5m to ACC. Mr Justice Paul Gilligan granted the sheriff an injunction against members of the Land league and New Land League and spokesman Jerry Beades and any party who had notice of the order restraining them from interfering with the auction. The auction proceeded on April 12, and the cattle sold. It later transpired two parties who had successfully bid on some 500 animals in the herd had failed to pay for them.
