Appeal on girl’s club death
Tory Johnston, aged 17, died following a night out with friends at the Voodoo Nightclub in Letterkenny on Tuesday night.
Gardaí believe more than 630 people attended the nightclub that night and have appealed to anybody with information on Tory’s movements to come forward.
They have set up a specific email address for people who may be able to help them with their investigation.
“Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Station in confidence at lkgarda@garda.ie,” they said in a statement.
Tory collapsed inside the nightclub before being taken outside by security staff for some air.
She collapsed again while outside and was rushed to Letterkenny General Hospital but died just after 6.30am on Wednesday.
Gardaí have trawled CCTV footage from the night Tory died.
They identified a young man she was seen chatting to for several minutes and have interviewed him as part of their investigation.
However, he has since been ruled out of their inquiries.
Gardaí have also confirmed that alcohol was taken from the Voodoo Nightclub for testing but stressed that this was a routine part of their investigation.
An autopsy into the cause of death of the Leaving Certificate student held on Thursday afternoon has proved “undetermined”.
Garda Inspector Pat O’Donnell has said toxicology reports will now have to be used to determine a cause of death.
This could take up to three weeks as the tests have to be sent to a laboratory in Britain.
Meanwhile, Tory’s funeral will take place after Mass tomorrow at St Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny.
Her heartbroken parents, Sammy and Helen, and her only sister Amy, are being comforted by family and friends.
