Cycle raises €30,000 for charities
Cancer Connect, CoAction West Cork, and Marymount Hospice each received €9,000 from the organisers of the 2014 Clonakilty Charity Cycle, which attracted 450 participants in early October.
Three other charities — Just-One, West Cork Rapid Response, and Clonakilty Special Olympics — each received €1,000.
The proceeds were distributed at a function in the Clonakilty GAA complex.
Since its inception during a charity coffee morning three years ago, the cycle event has to date raised €96,000.
Radio commentator Paudie Palmer, who had officially launched the charity cycle in June, said it was unthinkable what would happen to the country without voluntary organisations like the Clonakilty Charity Cycle raising funds for essential services, in particular health.
Work has already commenced on the organisation of next year’s charity event, which will be held in September.
