Man arrested over hit and run
Meanwhile, they have appealed for anybody who may have seen the movements of a green Toyota Starlet on Tuesday evening to contact them.
It’s believed the car turned off the N25 at the Waterrock junction, west of Midleton shortly before 7.30pm and headed down what is called the ‘back road’ to Carrigtwohill.
According to gardaí, it would have passed McCarthy Agri Supplies and then turned right before the railway bridge where it hit the 71-year-old.
The car and three occupants left the scene and, as gardaí closed in, it was abandoned in field half a mile north of the accident scene.
As the woman was rushed to Cork University Hospital, Garda patrol cars converged on the area.
They located the 97 D-registered Starlet about half an hour after the woman was knocked down at Haymount, Lower Woodstock, Carrigtwohill.
A Garda spokesman said that shortly before midnight, three men in their 20s arrived at Midleton Garda Station. “One of the men was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He was questioned and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The other two were spoken to, but were not arrested. All three are from the East Cork area,” he said.
He said the woman, who is from Carrigtwohill, remains in hospital and it’s understood that her injuries are not life-threatening.
