Fears for student missing in Poland

There are fears for the safety of a Cork student missing in Poland since Wednesday.

Fears for student missing in Poland

Searches have been mounted in Krakow for Aidan Lynch, a second-year University College Cork commerce student from Rochestown in Cork City.

The 20- year-old, 6ft 4in student and a group of nine friends travelled to Poland on August 20 for a holiday.

They were due to fly back to Ireland on Wednesday.

However, it is understood Mr Lynch parted company with the group and did not make the flight.

He was last seen at the Politechnika Krakowska in Krakow on that day.

Mr Lynch’s parents have travelled to the city in the south of Poland where they are liaising with officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs. University College Cork has been in contact with the family.

The UCC students union last night said it had launched a social media campaign in the hope that Irish students in the country might spot Mr Lynch.

Tweets have been sent out in both English and Polish appealing for people to spread details about the young man.

Student union president Mark Stanton said they had mounted a similar campaign when one of their other students, Matthew Kelleher, went missing in Boston earlier this summer. He was subsequently found safe and well.
