Cancer survivors to gather in Aviva

More than 800 cancer survivors are expected to attend a national conference in Dublin next month to share information and offer support.

Cancer survivors to gather in Aviva

Organised by the Irish Cancer Society, the event takes place in the Aviva Stadium, Dublin on September 19 and 20.

Entitled ‘Living Well with Cancer’, it is open to cancer survivors, their families, and friends.

The aim of the conference is to help people deal with the physical and emotional consequences of a cancer diagnosis and the treatment involved.

The conference is being held as part of Ireland’s first Cancer Week, a joint initiative by the Irish Cancer Society and Trinity College Dublin.

‘ Living With Cancer’ runs from September 15 to 20, during which national and international medical experts will highlight advances in cancer treatments.

Despite rising cancer cases, people are living longer following a cancer diagnosis because of advances in early detection and treatment.

Over 60% of people in Ireland survive for five years or longer after a cancer diagnosis and go on to live a normal and healthy life.

Cork ARC Cancer Support House is affiliated with the Irish Cancer Society and offers a wide range of services and support to those on a cancer journey and their loved ones.

Cork ARC can be contacted on 021 427 6688. For more information on Cancer Week, or to register to attend the conference, go to www.cancer.ie/nccs or call the Irish Cancer Society on 01 2310 500.
