Department says it will "monitor" outcome of UK age ratings on online music videos.

The Department of Communications is to carefully monitor a three-month pilot scheme in the UK which will place age ratings on music videos in a bid to prevent children from accessing "inappropriate" content.

Department says it will "monitor" outcome of UK age ratings on online music videos.

Under the plan by the British government, online music videos will carry an age classification from October in an effort to stop children accessing graphic content. British prime minister David Cameron said the move was to ensure the internet was not seen as a “lawless space”. However, the plan was criticised in some quarters as difficult to monitor and with no penalties in place for offences.

The Department, meanwhile, said the recently published Report of the Independent Expert Internet Content Governance Advisory Group had considered “the full range of issues arising in this area”. A spokesperson stated: “A cross-departmental implementation team are now considering these, and will report to Government later in the year on the most appropriate way forward.”
