Rallying call for Kerry Way Cancer Research Walk
The annual Kerry Way Cancer Research Walk takes place from July 25-27 in aid of Cork Cancer Research Centre. The annual event has raised around €650,000 for cancer research in the past nine years.
The walk is a guided 70km-journey over three days combining impressive mountain views, dramatic peaks and glens, wild moorlands, wooded paths, and lakes along the Kerry Way trails. Challenging but fun, the walks over the three days include some of Ireland’s most fabulous walkways — Lauragh to Kenmare incorporating part of The Beara Way, Lough Inchiquin, the Torc Waterfall, and Esknamucky Glen.
This year there will also be a boat trip across Kenmare Bay, landing at Templenoe to start a twilight walk to Kenmare.
Speaking at the launch of the event, adventurer Pat Falvey said: “Each year I look forward to this event. It is great to take a break from the hustle and bustle, join a fantastic bunch of people and see some of the wonderful sights of this part of the country.”
Kerry football legend Pat Spillane, who is also involved with the event, said the walk offers people the chance to raise money and also take part in a wonderful team event.
“It promises to be a great weekend and I’m inviting you all to come and challenge yourself and challenge cancer in the stunning surrounds of one of the most glorious places on earth — The Kingdom,” he said.
The Kerry Way Cancer Research Walk is open to everyone over the age of 18 and each walker is expected to be fit enough to complete each walk.
Walkers can decide on how many days they would like to walk, one, two, or all three days over the weekend.
