A new plan has been drawn up to manage public access to one of the country’s most popular mountain ranges.

It is conservatively estimated that at least 100,000 people annually go onto the MacGillycuddy Reeks, which includes Carrantuohill, Ireland’s highest mountain, and numbers are increasing.

However, the land that makes up the Reeks, in Co Kerry, is in private ownership and some of it is used for sheep farming.
