Man cleared over €600k seizure of cannabis
The verdict was reached yesterday after the three-day trial of Liang Lu Wang, aged 28, who denied possessing the drugs, having them for sale or supply, and cultivating them at Mondaniel business park, Rathcormac, Co Cork, on Nov 19, 2012.
Liang Lu Wang stood and bowed to the jury acknowledging his acquittal.
The verdict yesterday was on the more serious supply charge. The jury had earlier returned a unanimous not guilty verdict on the charge of possessing the drug for his own use.
Sgt Tony O’Flynn obtained a warrant to search the premises in Rathcormac and he went there with colleagues, including armed members of Regional Response Unit. He said there were about 10 officers present at the time.
He said they entered the premises and arrested five Chinese nationals and took them to various Garda stations.
Sgt Flynn said a number of specially constructed rooms were found. Lights and extractors were fitted for the purpose of growing cannabis in what he described as growhouses. He said over 800 cannabis plants were found.
Liang Lu Wang testified that he had nothing to do with the drugs. He said he got in contact with a man he knew only as “Boss”, “Big Brother”, or “Older Brother” through a Chinese website and got a job to drive a delivery van.
