Twitter hunt for culture treasure

Here’s an exclusive head-start for smartphone-wielding treasure hunters facing into a culture night adventure.

Twitter hunt for culture treasure

These are the clues you will need to find these five random objects which will be placed around Cork City as part of the city’s first Culture Night Twitter treasure hunt.

From a stuffed owl in one of the new venues for this year’s culture night celebrations to cans of spray paint, the items will be hidden in plain viewat five of the 80 venues participating in Friday night’s event.

The Twitter treasure hunt, a first for Cork Culture Night, includes a prize of a weekend for two at the Westbury Hotel in Dublin.

People hoping to take part should read the clues, try to find out where they are, and hit the city on Friday night armed with a fully-charged smartphone.

Bus Éireann will ferry people from venue to venue free of charge.

Then, once you’ve found each object, you must take a photo of yourself standing next to it and tweet the image with the hashtag #culturehunt.

You can tweet the photos in any order but the first person to tweet all five wins the weekend away.

There are spot prizes on offer too.

Meanwhile, the public will get a chance to handle ancient fossils, meet slithering reptiles and marvel at carnivorous plants when UCC’s School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences throws open its doors for culture night.

This is the first year that BEES has participated and it will give visitors a chance to see some of the unique animal specimens , collected by Charles Darwin during his famous voyage aboard the Beagle.

A team of science researchers will also be on hand to answer questions, with tours kicking off at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm.

And the opening of this year’s Masters of Architecture Course at the Cork Centre for Architectural Education will be the highlight of its Culture Night activities.

Full details of all of Cork’s Culture Night activities are available on www.culturenightcork.ie.
