A bright little girl who aced her IQ test may be forced to miss out on starting primary school later this month after being denied the full-time SNA (special needs assistant) that experts insist she requires.

Kate Crowley, 5, from Dunkettle, Co Cork, was assessed as “highly intelligent” after she scored exceptional results in IQ tests in the US less than two years ago.

But the youngster also suffers from a life-limiting illness which is so rare that after she was born, baffled doctors couldn’t find any medical records on it.
