Mother mourns ‘her baby’ shot six years ago
A member of David Brett’s family told the Irish Examiner that the pain of his murder would never go away, especially for his elderly parents.
But he said it would be eased if the perpetrator was found.
The family member, who did not wish to be identified, said David was the youngest of eight children.
His mother dotes on his memory and “still cares for his pet greyhound”.
“There are seven other children left, three boys and four girls. I know it’s six years on, but we still feel it more than ever. My mother still talks of him as ‘her baby’. She will never get over it,” he said.
It would give the family some closure if the killer was brought to justice and they know there are people who know those involved and haven’t contacted the gardaí.
“There are people out there who know what happened. They may have been involved in the drugs scene back then, but are now out of it. I would plead with them to come forward,” said the family spokesman.
“If they want to do that anonymously, then okay. If they don’t want to contact the Gardaí maybe they could pass the information on to an Irish Examiner journalist or a priest.”
He praised gardaí from the Kanturk Garda District and detectives from Cork City, who continue to make inquiries.
“The gardaí have treated us with the upmost respect. They have kept us informed of everything that’s happening. They’ve guaranteed us that no stone will be left unturned to get to the bottom of this.”
Crimestoppers have offered a €10,000 reward for information which will lead to the conviction of David’s killer.
