An Irish father fighting to prove an anti-acne drug led to his son’s suicide spearheaded a real shift in culture in the EU towards transparency, said the EU ombudsman.

Liam Grant fought Roche, the pharmaceutical company, for more than a decade, to prove that their drug was linked to the tragic death of 20-year-old engineering student Liam Jr.

In the end he lost, when the Supreme Court found there was not sufficient evidence but the case, and the boundless work of Mr Grant contributed to the drug being withdrawn in the US and warnings accompanying it elsewhere.
