Caller with information on missing man urged to make contact again

A mystery caller has rung a missing persons hotline with information about a man believed to have been murdered 15 years ago.

Caller with information on missing man urged to make contact again

The man left a message on the phone line in recent days, operated independent of gardaí, and set up by the Searching for the Missing group, with information about the disappearance of Limerick man Matthew Carroll.

The Southill resident was last seen on the evening of Jun 8, 1998, as he left the former Steering Wheel pub in Roxboro. His family believe he was murdered by members of a local crime family.

The Garda probe has run cold, but remains an open investigation.

Directly appealing to the caller, a spokesperson for Searching for the Missing said: “If the person who contacted the phoneline would do so again, we would really appreciate it. You left a message but we need to get more information about where Mr Carroll is buried.”

Mr Carroll’s elderly mother, Teresa, who is suffering ill health, made an appeal before Christmas for information: “I’m 83 and I want to be buried with my son. I’ve told Seamus, my other son, that he has to put Matthew’s bones in on top of me, should I go before his body is found.”

Fighting back tears, she added: “Fifteen years of my life have been destroyed, because he was my first son, and when he walked out that door that was the last I saw of him, and I’m still waiting for him to come home. Someone knows, someone has to know. You don’t just disappear without someone knowing something.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the phoneline on 085 2092119 or Roxboro Rd Garda Station on 061 214340.
