Parts of the country were braced last night for blizzard conditions as forecasters warned of high winds and sleet.

Met Éireann issued an overnight weather warning, saying there would be gusts of 110km/h to 130km/h in Connacht and Donegal, while Munster, Leinster, Cavan, and Monaghan were braced for gusts from between 90km/h and 110km/h.

Parts of Co Kerry were braced for overnight snow, and motorists were warned to be aware of potentially treacherous conditions.
