Rebel chairman Colm Keaveney has demanded an emergency conference to decide Labour’s future in Government as he throws down the gauntlet to Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore.

In a bid to bring the increasingly bitter war of words between the two men to a showdown, Mr Keaveney says delegates at the gathering should decide whether he remains in the post after being expelled from the parliamentary party for voting against child benefit budget cuts.
