Neeson: Young people bombarded with explicit images
The 60-year-old actor admitted he has struggled to cope in recent years with what he considers to be an information overload about sex.
Neeson, a father of two from Ballymena, Co Antrim, said: “I’d hate to be a kid now, because we’re all inundated with so much information about sexuality coming at us from everywhere — the media, the advertising billboards, just everywhere — and it must be so confusing for them.”
The Taken and Love Actually star said he’s worried that sex has been cheapened and started to lose its mystery to younger people.
In an interview with The Catholic Herald, he said: “There’s a problem that if you become over-familiar with something it moves from the sacred to almost the profane.
“The act is very, very special, you know. It’s full of mystery and wonder, and I’d hate us all to get to the stage where we just treat it lightly, because it deserves more than that.”
He added: “But times have changed since I was young, no doubt about it.”
Neeson had been married to actress Natasha Richardson for 15 years before her tragic death in a skiing accident almost four years ago. Eighteen months after her death, he started dating public relations executive Freya St Johnston.
However, the relationship “fizzled out” late last year as the actor wanted to devote more time to sons Michael, 17, and Daniel, 16.
