Murder accused further remanded
Clive Sharp’s case was adjourned until January at a hearing at a Welsh court which was attended by Catherine’s sister, Emma.
Mr Sharp, aged 46, who was charged last Friday with the murder of the 37-year-old Offaly woman, appeared by video link at Caernarfon Crown Court.
Speaking from Altcourse prison in Merseyside, Mr Sharp spoke only to confirm his identity and that he understood the proceedings.
There was no application for bail and he was remanded in custody. The case was adjourned until Jan 7, 2013.
Ms Gowing, from New Brighton, Flintshire, has not been seen since leaving an Asda supermarket at Queensferry on Oct 12.
Police have been searching a quarry and woodland about 4km from Ms Gowing’s home in New Brighton in Flintshire, north Wales.
The vet’s car was found burnt out at the woodlands at Alltami, near Mold, last Friday, a week after she was last seen.
On Monday, investigating police said specialist search teams had carried out a number of searches in north Wales and continued to search the quarry and woodland near Alltami.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Pierce also said police were now looking to trace the movements of the car owned and used by Mr Sharp, a black Volvo S40 with the registration AG58 JHE.
He asked people who saw the vehicle between 10pm on Friday, Oct 12, and 6pm on Monday, Oct 15, to contact them.
“I am particularly interested in any sightings of this vehicle close to Catherine’s home in New Brighton or in fact anywhere in the Flintshire or Cheshire border areas,” he said.
DCI Pierce said Ms Gowing’s family — represented by her sister Emma and her husband Shay — inspired the police.
“They are being informed of developments and supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers,” he said.
“Their strength and dignity have been an inspiration to us all and, on their behalf, I’d implore that if you have any information, no matter how insignificant you think it is, please contact the police.”
