Rights watchdog wants mandatory vetting U-turn

The State’s human rights watchdog wants the Government to row back on plans for mandatory vetting of all people working with children and vulnerable adults.

The Irish Human Rights Commission said the vetting bill may not take account of the constitutional rights of people being vetted.

The official body also wants the proposed legislation to incorporate ano-ther new bill, that will allow for certain convictions to be “spent” over time and therefore cannot be disclosed.
