Group appeals for more foster parents to come forward

An appeal has gone out to people living in Cork for more foster parents to provide a safe and nurturing home for vulnerable children.

The request has come from Fostering First Ireland (FFI), a non-statutory, which will hold an information coffee morning at the Rochestown Park Hotel this Wednesday, Jun 13.

Fostering adviser Lynda McDonnell will be on hand to talk about the challenges and rewards a career in fostering can bring.

“Foster carers provide children and young people with the safety and stability they need to achieve their ambitions and rebuild trust,” Ms McDonnell said.

She said FFI is looking to recruit more patient, resilient, and enthusiastic carers in the Cork region.

Ideally, she said, these people should have a good sense of humour and the innate ability to care for others.

FFI is committed to supporting foster carers, offering 24-hour support, ongoing training, input from professionals, and a dedicated social worker.

“Fostering can be challenging but it’s also hugely rewarding; with the support from FFI you could make a positive and lasting difference to a child or young person in care,” Ms McDonnell said.

FFI works in partnership with the HSE to provide high standards of care for vulnerable children and young people.

The agency welcomes carers from all walks of life, including single people, married, cohabiting, and same-sex couples.

Anybody interested in finding out more about a rewarding career in fostering is welcome to come along to the coffee morning for an informal chat.
