Anger as cause of death unsolved

The inquest into the death of a woman whose cause of death cannot be determined was adjourned again as her family reacted angrily at Dublin Coroner’s Court to the prospect of an open verdict.

Anger as cause of death unsolved

Carrie Conran, 29, from Cahir in Tipperary, was found dead at her apartment at Lyons Avenue North in Newcastle, Co Dublin, on Apr 13 last year having apparently taken an overdose.

Ms Conran had been admitted to Tallaght Hospital on Saturday, Apr 9, having claimed she had taken 42 Zimovane tablets and a small quantity of paracetemol.

However, no trace of either was found in her urine.

Doctors could find no reason to detain her against her will and she discharged herself the next day.

She was last heard from on Monday, Apr 11, when she made an unanswered call to her ex-partner. The family asked gardaí to check on her two days later and they found her dead in her bed. An undated note and several boxes of medication were found at the scene.

However, when the toxicology screen was carried out, no trace of medication could be found in her bloodstream and no cause of death firmly established.

The screen did not specifically test for Zimovane.

The case had been adjourned for a wider blood screen but yesterday Coroner Dr Brian Farrell said this had returned levels of Zimovane within the therapeutic range. The inquest was adjourned again for further tests to be carried out.
