Gangland shooting claims drug dealer’s life

The first gangland killing of the year has claimed the life of a well-known 36-year-old drug dealer whose brother was murdered three years ago.

Gangland shooting claims drug dealer’s life

Alan McNally, who was previously jailed for supplying heroin, was shot a number of times in the head at the Cappagh Nua pub on Barry Road in Finglas West.

His killer, described as being 6ft tall and well built, struck as Mr McNally was drinking in the pub at 1am yesterday.

The victim was rushed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

He had only recently been released from jail for heroin dealing and his older brother, Graham, was murdered in January 2009 about a mile from the pub, following what is believed to have been a falling-out with a major drug dealer.

Alan McNally, a father of- one who lived in Finglas, was arrested by gardaí when found in possession of €200,000 worth of heroin in Raheny in 2006.

He was given a seven-and-a-half year jail sentence. However, the judge suspended the last two years after he was told that Mr McNally had twice kicked a drug habit and helped addicts in rehab.

The killer, who shot Mr McNally with a handgun, was described as wearing a blue or navy jacket with a red collar, a blue or navy hooded top with the hood pulled up, black tracksuit bottoms with white stripes at the bottom and white runners. He was also wearing gloves and had a scarf covering his face.

Witnesses said the gunman fled on foot towards the Casement area of Finglas. It’s believed he may have had an accomplice with him who stood watch outside the pub as the killing was carried out.

He is described as being 5ft 10in in height, of slim build and was wearing white/grey tracksuit bottoms, black hooded top, white runners, gloves and a ‘scream-type’ mask.

Meanwhile, gardaí arrested a man yesterday in connection with another shooting in the city.

Gardaí discovered a 25-year-old man with a firearms injury to his face when they went to a house at Whitestown Avenue, Blanchardstown.

The injured man was taken to hospital where he was said to be in a stable condition.

Gardaí identified that the shooting had taken place at Whitestown Park. They arrested a 31-year-old man, who was detained at Blanchardstown garda station under Section 30 of The Offences Against the State Act.
