A CONSULTANT surgeon has told an inquest into the death of a Limerick man following his transfer to a Dublin hospital that he did not know if transferring him earlier “would have made any difference”.

John Fenton, 74, of Cahernorry, Billysimon, Co Limerick, died at the Mater Hospital, Dublin on March 12, 2010, following his transfer from the Mid-Western Regional Hospital, Limerick over two weeks earlier.

Mr Fenton, an insulin-dependent diabetic, had been admitted to hospital in Limerick on February 10, 2010, with obstructive jaundice.
