FOR the fourth month in a row the number of people signing on the dole has increased, with the number on the Live Register now at a record high.

Seasonally adjusted figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show an extra 1,600 people joined the dole queues in August bringing the total to 449,600, the highest figure since records began in 1967.

Ireland’s unemployment rate now stands at 14.4%, up from 14.3% in July.
