Shop worker attacked as he opened up before raiders left empty-handed

Two men, involved in the attack, left the store without taking anything. The attack happened at 8.37am as the victim opened the Vodafone shop in O’Connell Street.

Inspector Jerry Horan of Henry Street Garda station said the shop worker was set upon after he entered the store. He

said it would appear the assailants had entered the premises earlier.

He said gardaí were going through the extensive CCTV camera system, which scans the street.

The victim was tied up and was found when another worker arrived shortly after and raised the alarm.

He did not receive any apparent injuries, but was brought by ambulance to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital where he was treated for shock.

A check on the stocks in the store showed that nothing had been taken by the two masked intruders.

Gardaí at Henry Street are appealing for anyone who was in the area between 8am and 9.30am and who may have seen something suspicious to contact them on 061-212400.
