Martin vows to respond to Mahon Tribunal report ‘resolutely and fast’
“I’m not going to preempt the outcome of the Mahon Tribunal, but I will deal with that when it comes. It’s a short time away and I’ll deal with it very resolutely and clearly and fast,” he said.
Mr Martin backed calls for an end to ethical breaches by party members following controversial remarks made by Senator Averil Power earlier this week.
Ms Power said there was now no place for colleagues who carried around suitcases of cash or claimed expenses for holiday homes. She also insisted it was no longer acceptable for party members to refuse to answer questions about unorthodox financial arrangements.
Speaking at the MacGill Summer School in Donegal yesterday, Mr Martin said: “I think Averil is reflecting the anger that is there amongst the members of the party across the country.
“There’s anger in relation to what emerged in the context of evidence of the tribunal itself. There is anger in relation to the wider issues in terms of fundraising and, in certain instances, abuse of fund-raising that went on within the party.”
