Helpline to warn Cork drivers of flyover construction disruption
It will provide regular traffic updates in relation to the N25 Bandon and Sarsfield Road flyover scheme, which officially begins today. The €60 million contract is due to last for two years.
Signs displaying the helpline number, which will be operational from 9am, will be erected at various points along the South Ring Road. Engineers warned that partial lane restrictions will be in place on the site for about two weeks from next Monday.
They will affect westbound traffic using the right-turn lanes on the approaches to both the Sarsfield Road roundabout and the Bandon Road roundabout. The right-turn lanes will be shortened to facilitate site investigation works in the median.
Engineers are not expecting the restrictions to cause any delay at the Bandon Road Roundabout.
But they said they will not carry out this work between 7am and 10am from Monday to Friday to minimise disruption to traffic on the approach to the Sarsfield Road roundabout.
The project team said anyone with concerns, or who would like to be kept updated on progress, should forward their email address to n25@ccc-site.com to be included on a mailing list.
The major construction project — one of the few large national road projects to secure funding this year — will involve the upgrading of over three kilometres of the N25 South Ring Road, including grade separation at both the Sarsfield Road and Bandon Road roundabouts; the construction of a realigned dual carriageway along the new route; the construction of new parallel link roads between Sarsfield Road and Bandon Road; the demolition of existing pedestrian bridges at both roundabouts; the construction of new cycleways and footpaths, and the installation of traffic signals, gantry signs, public lighting and noise barriers.
The work is due to be completed by July 2013.
