Eight held over cannabis haul

EIGHT people were in custody last night following the discovery of 55kg of cannabis with a street value of €660,000.

Gardaí stopped two cars in Celbridge, Co Kildare, shortly after 4.30pm. They discovered 30kg of cannabis herb with a street value of approximately €360,000.

Four men aged 49, 45, 43 and 22 years were arrested and detained under Section Two of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A follow-up search of an apartment in Adamstown, Dublin, uncovered a further 25kg of cannabis herb with a street value of €300,000.

A further three men,. aged 40, 41 and 32 years, and a woman, aged 38, were arrested.
