The song goes on and on

AN attempt by an Irish musician to strum his way into the record books was continuing last night after it emerged that he must play for longer than he had planned.

The song goes on and on

Dave Browne kicked off his mammoth task to break the Guinness World Record for the longest time playing guitar at 4pm on Sunday at The Temple Bar pub in Dublin and continued to pluck his way to stardom last night.

He had been told that he only had to beat the 101-hour record held by Argentinean Guillermo Terraza, but last night, Dave learned that the actual current record was 114 hours.

However, Browne took the news with good humour, saying that he was enjoying the marathon session.

Browne, 43, from Castleknock in Dublin, has played with The Commitments, The Dubliners, Aslan and the Pogues.

In the five-day strumming marathon, he has been joined by friends and fellow musicians.

Dave said: ā€œIt’s been something that I have been planning to do for years now. Playing guitar comes really naturally to me.ā€

He has been in training for the past nine weeks and said in advance of the challenge that the hardest part would be staying awake.

For every hour that he plays, Dave is entitled to a five-minute break.

He has been a regular on the music scene for a number of years and has the full support of management and staff.

To break the record, Dave will have to play until 10am this morning, completing a mammoth 114-hour session.
