Hurlers face hair-raising task in charity wax-athon
Ken McGrath, who recently retired from the sport and his former team mate Tony Browne, will need to be told to “keep your hair on” as they are waxed at a fundraising event in The Kazbar on John Street in the city.
The event entitled Déise Boys Go Pink for Action Breast Cancer is the brainchild of local women, Michelle Whelan and Amber Young.
The pair hope to raise thousands for their chosen charity.
Ms Whelan yesterday said tickets are priced at €5 for the event. It is sponsored by local businesses and begins in The Kazbar at 8pm.
Music will be provided by local band, The Remedees, along with DJ sets from Ray Colclough (Beat 102-103 fm), along with Shaun Whelan and Alan Coady of the Yachrock club night.
Ms Whelan yesterday said: “It hurts a lot but they know that they’re raising funds for a brilliant charity.
“They’re two tough lads so they can do it.”
Tickets are on sale from Ken McGrath Sport, Foxy Chopper hairdressers, Cosmo Beauty and Crossfit.
All funds will go towards the Irish Cancer Society.
