Man arrested after raid

A 21-YEAR-OLD man remains in garda custody following an armed raid on a bookmakers shop in Galway on Wednesday at 4.30pm.

The man, who is known to gardaí, was arrested at a house in Ballybrit Heights, shortly after the Bar One bookies in the Briarhill Shopping Centre in the west of the city was raided by a man wielding a sawn-off shotgun.

The lone raider fled the scene with a sum of money and nobody was injured in the attack.
