NEW laws compelling convicted sex offenders to provide DNA and fingerprint samples to gardaí on release are among a range of motions to be debated at the AGSI conference.

The Wexford branch wants the association’s national executive to call on Justice Minister Alan Shatter to introduce legislation to fill gaps in the monitoring of sex offenders.

The motion demands that convicted sex offenders “register in person and to be fingerprinted, palm printed, photographed, to provide a sample for DNA and to answer all relevant questions”.
