Pilot’s family to travel to Cork

THE family of the Spanish pilot who died in the crash are due to arrive in Cork today to formally identify his remains.

Jorge Sola Lopez, 31, was a single man from Barcelona where his employers, airline leasing company, Flightline BCN, have their headquarters.

His family are being assisted by the Spanish Embassy in Dublin in making their travel plans and the arrangements to bring the body of their loved one back home to Spain.

Counsellor at the embassy, Ignacio Garcia Lumbreras, said the accident was a huge shock and a grave tragedy for all concerned.

He said embassy officials would also be assisting with Spanish air accident investigators who are also due to travel to Cork.

“I don’t have exact details yet of when they will come because at the moment our priority is the family of the deceased. It is a very great sorrow for them and we are trying to help them all we can,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of Ambassador Mercedes Rico, he said: “We are very grateful to the Irish authorities for all of the help they are giving and we hope that we can assist too with the investigation.

“Nobody wants something like this to happen again,” he said.
