THE Taoiseach was among those who paid tribute to Tipperary hurler John Doyle — nicknamed The Legend — winner of eight All-Ireland medals, three of which he won before he was 21.

The 80-year-old, who passed away yesterday, was widely regarded as one of the game’s all-time greats and served in Seanad Éireann from 1969-1973.

Brian Cowen last night said he was saddened to learn of Mr Doyle’s death.
