Transatlantic flight diverted

A TRANSATLANTIC jet, with two people on board, was forced to shut down one of its two engines and make an emergency descent and divert to Shannon Airport.

The crew of the privately owned business jet declared an emergency late on Tuesday night and diverted to the mid-west airfield after vibrations were detected in the aircraft’s left engine.

The Raytheon Hawker 1000, owned by US-based Calla Airways, was about 450 kilometres west of Ireland when the crew raised the alarm at around 9.45pm.
