Up to 195 Dublin jobs under threat

UP to 195 jobs are under threat at UTC Fire and Security Plant, at Citiwest in Dublin.

The company announced it is entering a consultation period with staff.

In a statement UTC said the proposal to transfer all manufacturing functions to other locations was to simplify the structure and to remain competitive. The proposed job losses will be over a phased period of 13 months.

Labour’s Pat Rabbitte said: “This area has lost many jobs in recent years in the construction, retail and manufacturing sectors, and these losses are the last thing local communities need.

“Already the unemployment rate in Tallaght is at crisis level, and joblessness among young people is spiralling out of control. Losses of this scale in this sector would indicate the Government strategy of developing and supporting employment is now in disarray,” he said.

In March of this year, UTC bought the security business of GE in Dublin and is now in the process of merging this&.

It has two other operations in Ireland, Pratt & Whitney Airmotive Ireland and UTRC. These are unaffected.
