Killarney site gets planning green light

AN Bord Pleanála has given the green light for the redevelopment of a “virtually derelict” site close to a major junction at the northern entrance to top tourist town Killarney.

The former Ahern’s garage and petrol station, on the Tralee-Limerick road, has been cordoned off with a hoarding for some years, but is now to become a neighbourhood centre with shops and restaurants.

The planning appeals board has rejected an appeal by vet Thomas Brosnan, whose veterinary hospital adjoins the site and who claimed the proposal would result in a traffic hazard.
