‘Dream come true’ as twins arrive home with family

TWINS Hassan and Hussein Benhaffhaf are home for the first time in more than two months.

‘Dream come true’ as twins arrive home with family

The boys, who were born last December joined at the chest, and who have made a remarkable recovery since April’s marathon 14-hour operation at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital to separate them, left Cork University Hospital (CUH) on Thursday just a week after returning from London.

“Hassan and Hussein have shown us that miracles do still happen and dreams do come true,” said their mum, Angie.

Professor Jonathan Hourihane, who led the CUH paediatric team, said they are delighted the twins are in a position to return home with their family.

The family returned to Carrigtwohill to an emotional homecoming with family and close friends.

“We just wanted to go home and have some family time and start living a normal life,” Angie said.

“It has been a very stressful few months. To be honest, our heads are still in the intensive care unit in Great Ormond Street. It will take some time to get over this.

“The boys’ recovery has amazed us all and we thank everyone who prayed for them and supported us through the toughest times of our lives.”
