An Post to offer no-frills mobile service

AN Post is to begin offering customers a no-frills mobile phone service this week where users will know exactly what they pay for texts and calls.

Post offices will begin selling the prepaid service Postfone, which will eventually be offered at over 300 offices nationwide.

An Post hopes the service will appeal to mobile phone users who are wary of complex mobile phone bill packages and who just want a simple way of tracking their spending.

Director of retail operations John Daly yesterday said the pay-as-you-go service could appeal to many of An Post’s 1.7 million weekly customers.

“This will be a simple rate for texts and calls per minute, not like the complex packages that are there at the moment. It will be popular with customers as they will know how much exactly it will cost them. It will be prepaid and we may expand the service later on.”

It is believed that any network, any time rates of 20c per minute and 9c texts are being lined up for the new service.

Postfone will also offer customers mobile phones and incentives for those switching over from other networks.

The new service will be fully rolled out over the summer and a key selling point is expected to be its no-frills, simple and straightforward rates with an emphasis on managing credit.

Mr Daly added: “We’ll be offering customers superb call and text rates.

“Soon all of our larger post offices will offer Postfone and all Irish mobile users will be provided a real alternative to the old, established networks”.
