Four separate seizures yield €1.6m of cannabis
A Polish man in his 20s is still being questioned by gardaí in Cork city after customs officers stopped and searched a car which arrived from France at the ferry port in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork on Saturday morning.
They found just under 10 kilos of cannabis herb hidden in the boot of the car, which had come from the port of Roscoff in Brittany.
The man was arrested and taken to the Bridewell Garda Station in Cork city.
In Limerick, a man from the North was remanded in custody yesterday after being charged in connection with the seizure of an estimated €240,000 worth of cannabis herb on Saturday.
The drugs were seized by gardaí after they stopped a car on the N7, in the Castleconnell area of the city, at 7.55am.
Trevor Cobbett, aged 36, of Sandymount Close, Lisburn, Co Antrim, was brought before a special sitting of Limerick District Court yesterday where he was charged with possession of cannabis and possession with intent for sale or supply.
He was remanded in custody to appear before Limerick District Court again on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a man in his 20s is due in court in Dublin this morning after an estimated €1.2m worth of cannabis herb was seized in Dublin on Friday.
Gardaí stopped a van on the Swords Road, Whitehall, at approximately 6pm.
They found the drugs in the van and arrested the driver.
He is due before the courts this morning.
Last night, two Vietnamese men aged 18 and 24 years were arrested by the local drugs unit at a “grow house” in Tallaght, Dublin.
Cannabis herb with a potential street value of €90,000 and cannabis plants with a street value of €80,000 were seized.
The two men were detained at Tallaght Garda Station under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
