Three youths questioned after stabbing and theft of car

The assault happened at around 6pm on Saturday in Glin village.

The victim was with another person in a car when they were approached by three youths, two of whom are from Glin and the third from Limerick.

One of the suspected attackers was aged 17 and the other two were reportedly both aged 16.

During the incident, the owner of the car was stabbed a number of times in the back before his car was taken and driven off at speed. Following the assault, the victim – aged around 20 and from Tarbert – was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital where he was teated for stab wounds and kept overnight.

The victim’s car was found later, a short distance from the village after it had been crashed. A mobile phone and some cash had also been taken.

Gardaí later arrested three teenagers who were brought to Askeaton Garda Station where they were questioned about the attack.

They were released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

Local county councillor John Sheehan said: “This is very disturbing for a quiet place like Glin.”

It is believed the Limerick city youth moved to Glin some time ago. According to local sources, the two others are from the Ballyhahill area.
