Confusion as HSE orders grant-aided agencies to cut pay

JUST 24 hours after the Government stopped it forcing pay cuts in line with salary cuts in the public sector on its grant-aided agencies, the HSE has started contacting the agencies to tell them it is still going to cut their funding.

The HSE instructed agencies such as disability charity Enable Ireland and children’s charity Barnardos, which are not under its direct control, to cut the pay of staff in line with the reductions to public service salaries imposed in the budget.

On Tuesday, Tánaiste Mary Coughlan had said that grant-aided agencies were not directly affected by pay adjustments. She said their employees are not public servants.
